The Historic Model Farm

Where memorable memories are made

The Historic Model Farm guest home, community event center is located on the south end of High Point, NC on 2 acres of land. In 1867 following the end of the Civil War, a group of Baltimore Quakers formed a group called “The Baltimore Association of Friends to Advise and Assist Friends in the Southern States”. The main function for this group was to provide education and aid to southerners by making them more self-sustaining farmers and improve their land. They selected a site in High Point, NC to become their “Model Farm”. The only green state spot in the Carolinas. This was the state-of-the-art farm house and barn with running water. Rat-proof corn cribs, wagons with iron axels, reapers and mowers. In 1891, the Friends decided that their task was complete and sold the farm. During its tenure thousands of people had visited the farm to take away new information regarding running farms, managing land, animals and building techniques. The proceeds later helped revitalize Guilford College.

The Historic Model Farm has passed through many hands since 1891. In 1969, it was owned by Alderman Studios, who used the property as a photography backdrop for magazine shoots. In 2007, Ruth Blumer purchased the home, inspired by the idea of transforming it into a charming bed and breakfast. However, after a series of life changes, she chose instead to gift the property to Preservation Greensboro Development in 2011.

In 2018, Riz Khan became the proud owner of the Model Farm. Drawn by its deep history and timeless beauty, she envisioned restoring the property into a vibrant community space—one that celebrates heritage, education, wellness, and shared experiences. Her dream is for guests to visit, connect, and leave with a renewed appreciation for the craftsmanship and story of this 1867 landmark.

Today, The Historic Model Farm has been reintroduced to the community for the first time in generations. Nestled on two peaceful acres, its welcoming red door symbolizes love and joy, while the light blue exterior stands out proudly—a beacon of history and hope brought back to life.
