The Historic Model Farm

Where memorable memories are made

The Historic Model Farm guest home, community event center is located on the south end of High Point, NC on 2 acres of land. In 1867 following the end of the Civil War, a group of Baltimore Quakers formed a group called “The Baltimore Association of Friends to Advise and Assist Friends in the Southern States”. The main function for this group was to provide education and aid to southerners by making them more self-sustaining farmers and improve their land. They selected a site in High Point, NC to become their “Model Farm”. The only green state spot in the Carolinas. This was the state-of-the-art farm house and barn with running water. Rat-proof corn cribs, wagons with iron axels, reapers and mowers. In 1891, the Friends decided that their task was complete and sold the farm. During its tenure thousands of people had visited the farm to take away new information regarding running farms, managing land, animals and building techniques. The proceeds later helped revitalize Guilford College.

The Model Farm has changed many hands several times since 1891. In 1969 Alderman Studios owned it for their photography backdrop for magazine images. 2007 it was purchased by Ruth Blumer who was inspired to renovate the house as a bed & breakfast, but due to serious of life changes she decided to gift it to the Preservation Greensboro Development in 2011.
Currently its owned by Riz Khan who bought the property in 2018. It drew her attention as a place of history and beauty. She could see the challenges through restoration and was drawn to her vision of the property as a community center restored, brought to life, celebrating memories, education, wellness, and staying as guests who would go back cherishing the value of unique historic architecture and history of 1867.
Today “The Historic Model Farm” has been reintroduced to the community for the first time in generations.
It’s secluded on 2 acres of land with a red door that symbolizes love and joy. The light blue exterior is visible from far away.
